DuVal Trailhead

Wow this trail really kicked my ass, lol

DuVal trail spans several properties protected by the South Kingston Land Trust.

The elevation gain and loss is like a roller coaster in here. It's quite the workout, especially after being on the couch for 5 weeks during the CoVid -19 ordeal.

Anyways, the terrain in here is great, you start on the red trail and you feel like you're in New Hampshire with the pine needle bed and pines everywhere.

Then you get on the green trail which takes you on a loop around a pond. Half way around the pond the elevation was already getting to me.

Pond along Green Trail

From the green we took the yellow trail which is .58 miles but it's the most elevation gain and loss in my opinion.

We saw 3 deer running up the trail in front of us. From there we jumped on the blue trail to go have a little lunch break on the "scenic outlook".

I saw a snake slither across the trail in front of my feet and nearly shit myself lmao..about a .25 mile on the blue trail you have to cross the street and walk about 100 feet down to get back on the trail to the scenic lookout. Really wasn't that scenic to me but I guess on a clearer day you can supposedly see Block Island from there. I saw something but can't say for sure if it was block island or not, it was an island though lol. Saw 3 black hawks or falcon or whatever, they were huge birds circling above is while we were eating.

After resting and eating we decided to head back. There was another mile left in blue trail to go but it went downhill from the lookout and I really didn't want to walk back up that hill on the way back, I was already half crippled at this point.

We stayed in the blue trail to head back to the car, we came across a staircase made of wood which was fun to scramble up.

Scamble up the natural staircase

Thank god I have learned to appreciate hiking poles, I strongly recommend hiking poles in here if you are a beginner hiker or if you're not a beginner, poles are heaven sent here lol. We also came across the coolest little setup of a house with swing and everything, was cool..

All in all this was a great hike and trail, if you're looking a workout and a bit of a challenge to get the heart pumping, this trail will do it.

The blue trail was the best in my opinion and yellow was hardest.

This was 1 of the challenges on the New England 6 Challenge that I got to knock off! Yay!

This trail sure was the most challenging to date that we've done! Even though it knocked me out and was asleep before 8 felt fantastic to be out in the woods. And was very grateful for my water bladder and hiking poles 🤣🥾
