Trail Etiquette While Hiking

So you are new to hiking and you love to be in nature enjoying the outdoors, breathing in the beautiful air and walking around hearing the birds chirps and whatnot. Hiking!! Either you enjoy solo hiking or hiking with a buddy to escape the busy world of cars, electronics, and for people, lol Yep it's way to peopley for me in this world, that's why I like walking peacefully in the woods and absorbing whatever nature has to offer me that day.

So whether you're new to hiking ( which is who this blog is mainly intended for, not just this post but the whole blog) or a true die hard for many years, there is certain etiquette you should be using when out in the trail.

1. Please take your trash out with you.

There is nothing more disgusting and pathetic than finding trash from hikers from candy wrappers to drink bottles. Pack an empty Ziploc or something in your bag to take your trash with you. And that goes for toilet paper as well if you use any on the trail.

2. Music.

Nobody wants to hear loud beats of anything, be it metal, hip hop or classic rock to blues blasting out of your cellphone speakers or your snazzy Bluetooth speaker. Keep it to yourself, wear ear buds , be considerate to other hikers around who go in the woods to hike and to get away from loud obnoxious noises. Stick it in your ears guys! Which brings us to the next one.

3. Hike quietly.

Don't be talking all loud like you're at a nightclub or a party in the woods. Turn your cellphone on silent and just be curtious to other hikers. And if you have kids with you make sure they aren't screaming and running all over the place.

4. Dog shit.

This pisses me off more than anything. Please for the love of benji , pick up your dog shit and take it out with you. There is nothing worse than stepping in a pile of shit while trying to enjoy the outside. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and love seeing them on the trails, but come on now , just pick it up so nobody steps in.

5. Right of way.

I give everyone and everything the right of way when I'm hiking, and always scoot to the side of the trail to let others by. But there is actually a right of way rule while hiking.

Horses get the right of way, and Don t speak loudly or move quickly, you will scare the horse. Hikers going UP hill have the right of way of down hill hikers.

6. Saying Hello and Smile.

When you're coming up behind a hiker a simple hello to let them know you are behind them is nice. When approaching a hiker coming toward just be nice , smile a quick hello or nod. No need to have a full blown conversation with anyone, we are out there mostly to enjoy the quiet solitude not mingle. I'm a bit of an introvert so just blowing by someone and saying hi is not a problem in my world lol

Anyways just be respectful to nature and people while out there and enjoy the day ! 😁
