HIKING DURING THE COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

So hiking season, or should I say perfect hiking weather , has comeback and oh boy we get to try out all new gear like shoes, backpacks, water bladders hiking poles etc...

Well not so fast says 'Rona !!!

All states are in some sort of shelter at home type thing and are required to wear face masks and be in groups of no more than 5. So hiking has become the thing everyone wants to do now.

Hiker Stu wearing her mask!

We are encouraged to go outside for walks and exercise, so therefore hiking has increased by almost 100% and everyone is now a hiker, lol Trails are getting crowded. Most trails i like hitting are in Massachusetts, since we can't travel I'm left to find some trails in RI.

State parks are closed and Conservation areas and things like that.

People have been told to stop their thru hikes and get off trail on the Appalachian Trail and PCT. It's crazy!!!

Same rules apply while hiking as when going to a store, stay 6 feet apart, wear a mask, no large groups.

I'm out of work so I really have nothing to do. so I decided to start designing some merchandise to try and make a few bucks in my free time. You purchase by clicking here, Buy Merch

Anyways enough self promoting and pimping my merch out,

lol

So I been a little sketchy about hitting the trails through this whole ordeal with 'Rona

Yellow Trail Weetamoo Woods

virus going on. Mostly because everyone has nothing to do so why not take up hiking , it's peaceful, your in nature and it's calming to take your mind off big ol 'Rona .

I found a new local favorite trail of mine, Wetamoo Woods, during all this so far.

Although the first time I went a few weeks back of course there were people in groups of more than 5 , now that's a no no people. It's hard to stay the 6 ft. apart on a trail when you are in groups, so please just hike alone or with 1 hiking buddy. Let's just be safe.

Now this past week it a rule that face masks must be worn in public. So not only are you grabbing your best hiking shoes, and pants you must now Don your snazziest hiking face mask.

I had plans on starting to section hike the New England Trail in April, well that ain't happening. I'm sure lots of you had big hiking plans and goals to be starting about now. Hopefully this virus goes away and we can start opening state parks and trails again and I can slither into Massachusetts and other states in New England so I can try and finish some of these Fun Challenges i made up...

So until this over and I hope it's soon, just remember:

- Try not to hike in large groups

- When passing other hikers and the path is narrow, pull off to the side just be sure not to be stepping all over plants and flowers and put your mask on.

- If you are mandated to wear masks then do so, I usually have mine around my neck and when I see other people coming i pull my mask up over my mouth and nose until they are safely 6 feet away

- Stay close to home to hike

- Stay safe and hike responsibly

So with that just try and stay safe until this 'Rona Virus is behind us ...

Happy and Safe Trails

It has been strange hiking with a mask on but it's better than not going hiking at all. Just need to follow the rules and you you'll have the same great hiking experience you always have. Hiker Stu signing off and as Rocco Root says happy trails 😊
